Keep in mind if you are primarily interested in working IL, keeping the
dipole *low* to the ground may work surprisingly well. We tried this last
year, with a 40/80 meter homebrew wire dipole 12-15 feet off the ground
on purpose testing the "NVIS" technique. It worked very well and all IL
stations were booming in.
