N9JF will most likely have the most accurate answer but I seem to remember
NN9K doing 21 or 22 counties not too long ago and it may be that more than
that have been activated. KF9D has done a bunch before as well. I have done
a couple of SSB only trips for ILQP and it always surprises me how much time
it takes and still obey traffic laws. I don't think I have activated more
than 14 counties and that took a good bit of planning. 20 plus counties sure
doesn't leave any time for getting lost!

Subject: [ILQSO] Mobile/Rover question
I have a question for those who keep a record of contest results. Does
anyone know the all time record for most counties activated by a single
mobile
or rover station during the IL QSO Party? I am contemplating a run at
operating
from 20 or 30 counties as a mobile or rover in a future ILQP. It isn't going
to
happen this year as I am committed to a Sangamon County portable operation
from
the Red Cross in Springfield. I'm thinking it might happen in 2011. For
those
not familiar with my job, I regularly drive 300 to 400 miles per day running
around Illinois servicing banks' ATMs and money counting equipment. I love
marathon drives. My longest to date is Anchorage, AK to Springfield, IL in 4
days. Some day I hope to do the One Lap of America road rally. As I drive
around Illinois I'm always looking for good county line operating spots and
thinking if a good operator and I teamed up we
could activate a lot of counties. Looking at the current activity map for
the
2010 IL QSO Party I'm thinking my idea might have merit. There seem to be a
lot
of vacant counties especially in central and southern Illinois. Maybe we
could
have an award for those who spend the time and gas to activate those
counties.
