[ILQSO] Rover/"Stationary mobile" (was Re: KJ9C a no-show this year)

Another option you can offer would-be mobile operators you are trying to entice to operate is ILQP's Rover category (or what I've been practicing for years in the ILQP and call "stationary mobile"). This is perfect for a one-person operation. Set up your car for mobile operation, but instead of trying to operate while driving, you make a stop in each county, turn off the car, and operate for 20-40 minutes (or until your CQs go unanswered), and then drive to your next county stop. You can't cover as many counties (maybe eight at most, one per hour), and you still need to plan your route carefully like a mobile operator to minimize time in transit, but it does allow you to activate a number of places. Plus, when you are operating, you can still look out the window while calling CQ and enjoy the beautiful day since you aren't having to worry about the road, plus listen to the birds and not deal with road or automobile noise while operating. Country
churches make good places to stop at, as do schools on the edge of town. I even have a country cemetery on a hilltop that I try to stop at with a nice view along my route. And for those intent on winning in their category, there are only a small handful of us operating in that category, and so it wouldn't take much to top the category.

Cheers/73,
Kevin, K9IUA, who drives over to activate counties in northwest Illinois during the ILQP, and operates QRP at that.
