[ILQSO] mobile antennas

One huge plus is a lot of metal under the antennas. Full-sized van is good. Large pickup is good. Small sedan...not so good. Antennas mounted near the center of the vehicle avoids directivity. Ground everything, then ground it again. A balun of several loops of coax near the radio helps keep down RF in the "shack". The more mast you can put under the resonators, the better.

Resonators mounted horizontally might have a higher angle of radiation than those mounted vertically...but I don't know. If so, it would be nice to have both, switchable. There are some restrictions on innovation depending upon how many low-hanging branches one encounters and the speeds attained on the interstate system.

It's likely I will have separate antennas for 80, 40 and 20 this year instead of depending upon the screwdriver.

I am interested in this too. So far, all I have seen or heard of is standard
HF mobile antennas (Hustler, hamsticks, various screwdrivers), except for
KF9D and his over sized 40 meter mobile antenna. I had given thought on how
to design a very efficient, horizontally polarized antenna (NVIS) for mobile
use on 40 meters, but never did try anything yet. It may be a year or two
before 40 meters will support good NVIS again.

Just curious, been curious since last year.

WHAT do you big-gun mobiles run for antennas? If it is a secret weapon, I
understand! But, some ( most) of you guys are really strong, and
obviously hear well.
