[ILQSO] Spotting portable/mobile stations

Good observation. I was surprised that not more stations were spotted.
I got spotted a total of 19 times in 18 counties; not bad, but not
overwhelming. Since in several counties I was spotted on more than one
band, there were several where I wasn't spotted at all.

A lot of the county hunters were on the way back from a convention in
SC. This meant that 1) They were running counties and were being
spotted and 2) They weren't home to work us and spot us.

Next year it might help to encourage more spotting of the portable and
mobile stations. W6RK's county spotting site seems to be very easy to
work, and is web based so one doesn't need telnet. I forgot about it,
and was using W9ZRX - found several spots with that, but telnet is a bit

more spartan than W6RK's site. How can we get more of the fixed
stations to do spotting of the folks in the field?

I should have stuck around for the last hour. NY4N showed up on 80
metres, and there were several others on 80 which I could have worked.
But, a long dry spell on both 80 and 75 metres made it seem not to
fruitful......

I did find that SSB was a great addition - several times I had so many
Q's from multiple county line stations that I had to write everything
down by hand and then catch up later with the logging! Perhaps next
year I'll have a better antenna and/or propagation will be better (it
can hardly get worse on 40 and 20) and I won't get discouraged!
