"A Slight change"?

I don't think so, Jim.

This is a MAJOR change that totally alters the mobile class for the ILQP.

I know that there were some who advocated making the ILQP mobile class a
carbon copy of most other QSO parties (ie a race to see who can drive
through as many counties as possible) but I thought the sponsors understood
that the ILQP's unique rules made for something fun and different. Under
the old rules, you actually had to use your head and carefully plan your
route and think about where you wanted to be and when. It was actually
possible for a single op to win by thinking through the rules, planning well
and operating well. I know because I managed to do it a few years back.
The rules made the contest so interesting and challenging that I was
motivated to drive 700 miles each way three different years just to operate
for 8 hours .

The ILQP mobile category has now lost its distinctiveness and has become
just another road race very unfriendly to single ops. What a shame.

Hal W1NN

EVERY contest is a preseason training for ILQP :)

By the way, the 2007 ILQP announcement is up on the web page (thanks,
NA9Q!):

Not many changes, but note a new "Rover" class and a slight change in
the "Mobile" class.

Does anyone else look at next weekend's IARU contest (with limited time,
and
mixed modes) as preseason training for the really important contest-the
ILQP?
