Seems like it would encourage folks to concentrate on CW because of the
2 points per contact, but then there's the fact that one can often
achieve a significantly higher rate on phone vs CW.
I'm curious.

The response:
Multipliers count only once, regardless of mode. Your observations are
correct: CW counts more per QSO, but most of us can talk faster than we
can send, so potential rates are quite a bit higher on phone. Back
before we had standardized abbreviations for the counties, having to
send "599 Winnebago/Stephenson" or "599 Hamilton/Franklin" was a killer
:). Also, don't forget those 5 DXCC countries (USA and VE included!).
Glad you're going to put that 4-county corner on the air. Yes, it should
be a LOT of fun. The only time I did a 4-county corner, it was in a
hole in southern IL. The opening (geographically) in the horizon was
north, and the only DX I worked was Norway! You won't have that problem
out on the prairie.
