[ILQSO] A more serious question

I have taped a small "hood" over the laptop screen so I can just see
underneath it but the sunlight doesn't hit it directly. You're right,
this is a big problem when operating outside!!  A regular monitor
usually works OK, but who wants to drag one of *those* around??

One of the best operating aids of the computer era is logging, and 
automatic dupe checking via computer.  As a bonus, it helps to send CW 
(and even voice if you're so inclinde) via computer.

I've had a recurring problemme, for which I've only managed a "so-so" 
solution, with my laptop (and even with a home computer when my laptop 
was failing one year.)

That is, how does one read a computer screen in broad daylight?  My 
laptop screen almost completely washes out when I get in anything near 
full sunlight.  I usually manage to operate, practically by rote, but 
when I need to see smaller objects - like band change or mode change or 
"time on/off", I hide under a black coat so I can see the screen.  Even 
when I bring an external monitor it gets washed out if I'm in bright 
light - even sun coming from the back of the monitor or laptop screen.

Does anyone have a better way?  It wasn't too bad this year with ILQP 
where I was, because the sun rarely came out, but I still had some 
problemmes.
