I suspect I'd enter calls into LOTW as 3Y4/N8XX if I were to operate
from where ever 3Y4 happens to be (or if it happens to be). Since the
only "foreign" call I've used is W8CHT/VE3 years ago, I doubt I'll get
to 3Y4 land. I did go to Australia, and a few European countries, but
only for business or as a tourist, not as a ham. My friends who are
DXers say that shows my true interest in DXing. :)
Closest I got to being "rare" DX was in 1978, during the ARRL or CQ WW
DX phone contest (I forget which), when our radio club borrowed my brand
new call. "N" prefixes and "X" suffixes were brand new, and the fellows
operating the club station were bombarded with calls. I might have even
made DXCC, but I never pursued it.
I have worked all states several times during Field Day and Sweepsteaks,
but haven't bothered to get QSL's from all the states. Mayhap I'll try
to do that from N9Q during ILQP.
The LOTW seems a cop-out, except I understand it's a financial drain on
folks in developing countries, and the big guns in the developed
countries are very eager to get confirmation.
Spark gap forever, is my motto. :)
