[ILQSO] logging program

A note to folks who complain about RFI from inverters for the laptops.
I bought a relatively cheap 12V to x Volt DC to DC inverter from Rat
Shack a few years ago. (X is switch selectable from about 3 VDC to 24
VDC.) It powers my laptop beautifully without any RFI. It charges up
the battery on my laptop while it runs. The laptop I have runs on 11
VDC with a 3 cell lithium ion battery, and requires 15 to 17 VDC 2Amps
max at the input.
I don't do HF mobile very often - it's too much of a distraction while
driving, but I've used my laptop quite a bit while my wife is driving.
I have more ignition noise than noise from the DC to DC inverter. I
can't hear the inverter even when the car's engine is stopped.
I've heard that many 12 VDC to 120 VAC inverters are noisy. I don't
know what the difference is interenally, except perhaps better
shielding. Since my inverter is over 5 years old, it is probably
superceded, so if you're thinking of buying one of the DC to DC
inverters, try it for RFI before plunking down the $$'s.

I have received several logs that were done with N3FJP's logging program
and they are VERY easy to process ( ;0). I'm pretty sure it's free. Have
never used it but it sounds like it would be worth investigating. N9PCS
also wrote a program that looks pretty good. I'll be logging on paper in
the car this year (again) since I can't cope with the noise the inverter
puts into the radio...but that's another issue. 73, Jim N9JF
