My ILQP mobile excursion was pretty tame compared to others who have
posted here! Operated from seven counties: KANK/WILL, IROQ/FORD, LIVG,
and GRUN/KEND.
I'd been making some small preparations in the weeks prior to the
contest, such as replacing the 4-year old original battery in the car
and replacing the HF rig's power connector that lives in the engine
compartment. Then on the Sunday of PAQP I built a couple of cables for
a new memory keyer just in time to operate the last 90 minutes of that
contest. By then everything seemed to be in good working order and
ready for ILQP the following Sunday.
The weather couldn't have been better: sunny skies and cool
temperatures. I tried to spend equal amounts of time on 20 and 40
meters at each stop. Sometimes the pileups were simply overwhelming. I
apologize for coming back with partial calls so frequently, but I truly
had a hard time separating the multitude of stations even with a 500 Hz
IF filter. I operated until 2330Z and then headed for home. It was
great fun.
