[ILQSO] Pileup management

One technique I am going to attempt this Sunday: When I have several
stations calling at once, I will TRY to remember to ask for "/m?"
occasionally. This will be a win-win-win situation:
1) I more than likely need the mobile in the pileup for a multiplier. It's
been nearly impossible to work more than 50 IL counties as a mobile in the 8
hours.
2) The mobile I work needs me for a multiplier. He can't afford to sit
there for 5 minutes, trying to get in over the (almost always) stronger
fixed stations.
3) Once he works me, he can go back to CQing, AND THE FIXED STATIONS CAN
THEN WORK **HIM**....
See what I mean by "win-win-win"???
Anyhow, it sounds good (to me) in theory :)
After several years of doing innovative things with logging programs as a
mobile, I am going back to paper this year. My old laptop is not
dependable, it has no floppy drive, and my new one (with Windows XP) sends
attrocious CW and loses time when working in a DOS window. I may exhibit
some pauses this year while trying to send and write simultaneously, but at
least I won't inadvertently call CQ when I mean to send my call!!!
Two days, 3 hours to go....
