Jim,

Not an easy set of questions to rate especially if I consider why I operate
mobile in the ILQP. So you're stuck with two number 1 selections, Loyalty to
the ILQP and testing my operating skills. In fact loyalty to the ILQP
overrides the fact that I don't like the party format or rules. I have rated
"Rules format" a number 2 because if I was contemplating operating mobile in
another state's QSO party the rules format would be a definite
consideration.

Will be interesting to see the results of your survey!!!

CU

__1_ Loyalty to a state, club or individuals participating

__6_ Likelihood of winning a category

__7_ Tangible rewards provided by sponsor (trophies, plaques,
certificates, other)

__8_ Tangible rewards available based on level of achievement (T-shirts,
coffee mugs that can be purchased)

_5__ Convenient and enjoyable way to spend part of a weekend (only if you
are a masochist!!)

_3__ Length of contest

_2__ Rules format

_1_ Opportunity to try out my mobile/portable station and test my skills
(mostly testing my skills)

___ OTHER: **Please list and be specific!!** The Wisconsin QSO Party
because of the rules format requires more coordination and cooperation
between the driver and the radio operator than does the ILQP. Also in the
WIQP route selection, again because of the rules and bonus points
achievable, is very important.

Subject: [ILQSO] activity

Having participated in quite a number of state QSO parties over the years,
some as a fixed station and others as a mobile or portable, the conclusion I
have reached is that the success of a QSO party rests on the following, in
no particular order:

-- advertising
-- tangible rewards
-- date selection
-- contest format
-- mobile participation

Focusing for the moment on the last issue, I would like to pose this
question to anyone who has participated or might consider participating in a
state QSO party as a mobile:

What helps determine whether or not you put out the effort to participate as
a mobile in a particular state's party? Please rank the following, with
number 1 being highest priority, and PLEASE ADD OTHER CHOICES!!!

___ Loyalty to a state, club or individuals participating

___ Likelihood of winning a category

___ Tangible rewards provided by sponsor (trophies, plaques, certificates,
other)

___ Tangible rewards available based on level of achievement (T-shirts,
coffee mugs that can be purchased)

___ Convenient and enjoyable way to spend part of a weekend

___ Length of contest

___ Rules format

___ Opportunity to try out my mobile/portable station and test my skills

___ OTHER: **Please list and be specific!!**

If you do NOT participate as a mobile station, please rank you reasons and
add others:

___ No mobile station

___ Too far away

___ Inconvenient date

___ Contest too long

___ Contest too short

___ Just don't like mobiling in a contest.

___ Logging inconvenient or impossible when mobile.

___ OTHER: * List and explain*

I will compile the responses and post a summary. Please let me know if you
do NOT want to be quoted directly.

73 and tnx, Jim N9JF
