[ILQSO] Island portable?

John,

I think the whole question of how to sign in the state QSO parties is slowly
migrating towards a better, more usable system. Many mobile are now signing
"Callsign/M County" or "Callsign/County" and even some fixed stations are
signing "Callsign County". I've worked some stations calling for instance
"CQ TXP XX5X" only to find out that they were in Oklahoma and the QSO didn't
count. In that case calling "CQ TXQP XX5X/OK" or "XX5X OK" would have saved
everybody time and energy.

Obviously it's very valuable for a mobile to let everyone know what county
he is currently running in order to maximize his score but I think it's
helpful for fixed and portable stations to do the same. It was kind of
interesting last weekend in the TQP, I worked a station who wasn't signing
/M and listening to him later found he was in a different county than when I
first worked him. Found him a third time and he was in another different
county, still not signing /M. I had to assume he was mobile so he's XX5XXX/M
in my logs. But for the most part, everyone is picking up on the benefits of
letting the listeners know where they are.

Nuff of this Dr. John, CU and the rest of Oklahoma in the ILQP!

Pete,

I agree with you on signing portable. I was just
thinking that in terms of contest category, I believe
that it would be considered fixed, since he is not
mobile, and is not a country line portable.
