Dear Cook County ARES® Members and Friends:
The state is offering AUXCOMM training in Freeport in mid-February and in St. Charles at the beginning of April.
The AUXCOMM course is designed to introduce and acquaint volunteer (amateur radio) emergency communicators with their roles while working in the Incident Command System (ICS) structure. The intended audience is auxiliary emergency communicators and groups who volunteer to provide backup emergency radio communications support to public safety and emergency response professionals and their agencies.
This training is conducted over the weekend and will require attendance on both Saturday and Sunday. There is no charge for the class. No travel assistance is available.
Four introductory courses from the FEMA Emergency Management Institute Independent Study program are prerequisites: IS-100.b, IS-200.b, IS-700.a, and IS-800.B. The specific versions (".a", ".b", ".B") listed are required. These courses are available at no charge on the training.fema.gov web site. They are not difficult; motivated students could successfully complete all four courses over a weekend.
Interested students must apply at least two weeks in advance. Documentation proving completion of the prerequisites is required. The application deadline for the Freeport class is imminent. Although the deadline for the St. Charles class is a few weeks away, those who wish to attend should note that space is limited.
Drop me a note for a copy of the application. Please direct any questions about the class to John Cheney N9MWF <jwcheney at ileas.org> .
If you are interested in emergency communications, please take advantage of this great training opportunity.
