Subject: [ILHam] weekend Ham Class & Exam
Message-ID:
Calling all Amateurs - your assistance is requested. -
Do you know someone who has expressed an interest in becoming an Amateur Radio operator
but just never took that next step? Perhaps you know someone who you'd like to interest in
our hobby and show them an easy way to get their ticket.
The York Radio Club, Elmhurst, Illinois began offering weekend learning and review sessions
about 10 years ago; these classes ended with an V.E. exam which is typically passed by
over 90% of the students.
Begun as an experiment, to share in a weekend a quality fast paced presentation of all required
elements on the current Technicians exam. taught by hams who are experienced teachers
and industry trainers. Along with comprehensive visuals, the pool sections are presented as a
review with an opportunity for questions and answers making for better understanding
of the materials covered.
We suggest that all those interested in attending the weekend review and exam sessions
should first obtain and read through the ARRL?s HAM RADIO LICENSE MANUAL.
This ham education project is prepared and led by Chuck Hopper, K9PLX , and since 2007
a group of ?professors? have brought those who have wanted to get their license the
opportunity to do just that, starting Saturday morning and succeeding Sunday afternoon.
We last held a session in November, where 5 folks became ham radio operators.
With a few more wanting us to do it again, and soon, we have set March 18th & 19th
as the dates for our next session. See our club?s web site for more details and a
way to register for the sessions: - http://yorkradioclub.com/training
I noticed the other day that we hams in the United States now total over 800,000.
Do you know someone who might be able to take advantage of and benefit from this
weekend approach to getting their ticket? If so, please pass the word along.
In fact, on that web page is a link for a PDF flyer with information about the weekend
training sessions. You might print off an 8.5 x 11 inch copy, or an 11 x 17 inch poster
and post it where you can help expose our hobby and this path to becoming a ham.

Or simply forward this email along with your personal words of encouragement
to someone you know who wants to become a ham!
Thanks for reading this, and a double thanks for helping to promote ham radio!
