From mnowack at comcast.net Sat Jun 11 15:38:31 2016 From: mnowack at comcast.net (Michael Nowack) Date: Sat, 11 Jun 2016 14:38:31 -0500 Subject: [ILHam] Items for Sale Message-ID: <000701d1c418$d6256850$827038f0$@comcast.net> All, I have several items for sale the I would like to move to clear space in the garage. I have had these hanging/stowed in the garage for years and need to move them out to someone who will put them to use (or is looking to fill the empty spaces in their garage). 1. A pair of 9 element 2m beams with stacking and phasing kits. Made by Tany in Japan. Model 9Y2K beams. Each beam is 11 feet long and has 11 dB gain. Complete with the stacking kit. Stacked the gain will go to 14 dB. These are in good condition and would require just the fabrication of the stacking kit cross boom to mast plate and 4 U-bolts. I have the spec sheet for the beams but some details are in Japanese. These are well built and would stay in the air through our Midwest weather. Any reasonable offer and they are yours. 2. A Rohn 20G top section. Reasonable shape but with one small crack in one leg near the top where it tapers in toward the mast tube. That should not cause any problem. It isn't new but would be quite serviceable in any installation. Any reasonable offer and it is yours. 3. Rohn 25G fold over base plate. Used but in serviceable condition. Model BPH25G. These sell new for $224 at Hill Radio. My price Is $100. 4. Rohn GA25GD guy bracket for 25G tower, complete with 3 ea TB25D torque bars. Complete package sells for over $300 at Hill Radio. My price is $150. 5. Power supply, 24 VDC @ 7 Amp full load continuous duty, regulated. Operates from 120 VAC. Commercial supply built buy PDS Technologies. Price is $30. All items are available for pick up in Quincy, IL. I have other items which I will be posting As I have time, watch here for the emails. Field Day is this coming weekend! ============================================================ Some Thoughts on Field Day Safety === Weather === * It looks like we're in for a typical hot Field Day this year, with increasing probability of thunderstorms as the weekend progresses. According to news reports, more than 90 people were killed by lightning in storms in India in just the last couple of days. * Be careful and observe the weather. If storms threaten, shut down and move to a safe shelter. * Lightning isn't the only risk. Consider hail, winds, and the risk that temporary structures and antennas can move or fall. * Have a plan. Scout out a safe shelter before you start operating, and be prepared to move there on short notice. * Also, keep cool and drink enough water, especially during set-up and tear-down. Don't overdo it. None of us are as young as we used to be. === Generators === * Put the generators downwind. * Don't refuel while the generator is running. * Don't smoke while handing fuel. === Cables, Guys, Stakes, Etc. === * Where possible, keep cables off the ground so they don't present trip hazards. * Mark cables, guys, stakes, and other hazards with yellow tape or other brightly-colored decorations. * Black cables, and the like, that are obvious during the day, become invisible at night. * Holes and other ground hazards can be marked with an inverted bucket. * Survey your site for hazards on the ground and in the air before beginning work. * Keep antennas, towers, masts, etc. far away from power lines. LOOK UP. ============================================================ Have a Fun, Safe Field Day!!! 73 --Neil Ormos N9NL ARES? Dear Illinois Hams: Come on out to ARRL? Field Day, the annual exercise that combines emergency communications preparedness, fun, operating skills, creative problem solving, the installation of antennas in the most unlikely places, fun, fellowship, friendly rivalries with other clubs, good food, sunburn, mosquitos, and fun! ARRL? Field Day is the largest Amateur Radio emergency communications exercise, and will be held this weekend, Saturday and Sunday, June 25 and 26. Amateur radio operators (or "hams") numbering in the tens of thousands, throughout the US and Canada, will demonstrate their emergency communications capabilities by trying to contact as many other stations as possible over a 24 to 27 hour period, using emergency power sources and temporary stations and antennas erected in the field for this event. Many hams participate in this event as part of a local amateur radio club or emergency communications volunteer group. Some clubs/groups operate at the Emergency Operations Center (EOC) of a government or other served agency, instead of building stations in the field. Field Day is not just for experienced hams. Visiting a club/group Field Day operation is a great way for new hams to learn more about emergency communications and to meet other hams in their neighborhood. And Field Day is an excellent introduction to ham radio for the general public. I encourage all amateurs, and prospective amateurs, to participate in this fun and educational emergency communications exercise. Most clubs/groups will be delighted to welcome you as a visitor, even if you're not a member of the group, and even if you're not a licensed ham. And when you come out to Field Day, PLEASE BRING A FRIEND! We all know some good candidates for a visit to Field Day. An inactive ham, perhaps one who has strayed away. A ham without an HF station, perhaps someone living where an HF antenna is not permitted. A non-ham neighbor or co-worker who has expressed an interest in electronics or communications technology. Several large clubs are at new locations this year, and other clubs are trying new antennas, operating modes, and techniques. So there's plenty new to see, even if you've "seen it all". Maps and additional information on club/group Field Day operations in Illinois in 2016 are available at the Illinois and Chicago-Area Field Day Drectory: Also, the ARRL has a Field Day Locator Map at: Wishing everyone a fun, successful, and *safe* Field Day, 73 --Neil Ormos N9NL ARES?
