Dear Cook County ARES® Members and Friends:

Providing public service communications for events
involving the public is a great way to exercise
the same equipment and operating skills you will
need in a real emergency. It's also a terrific
opportunity to assist your community and
demonstrate amateur radio in the best possible
light.

Please consider helping with these upcoming
events. (If you've never participated in a
ham-radio public service event before, don't
worry--there are plenty of experienced folks to
give you a helping hand.)

On Sunday, 07 June 2015, hams will be providing
assistance for the Udder Century Bike Run. Hams
supply rider and logistics support, called SAG
("Support And Gear"), which consists of traveling
the routes (in a vehicle), assisting riders and
notifying the event coordinators of any problems.
A bike rack is helpful but not absolutely
necessary. This event starts in Union, IL, in the
northwest suburbs, and extends into Wisconsin.

On the following Sunday, 14 June 2015, hams will
be assisting with the Tour de Cure, a bicycle ride
that benefits the American Diabetes Association.

Helping find a cure for Diabetes is surely a cause
worthy of our support. Nearly 24 million Americans
have diabetes, so virtually all of us have a
relative or friend affected by this disease.

Hams provide SAG support (drivers and navigators),
patrol the course as "bike mobiles", "sweep" the
course for stragglers, and perform other
communications-related tasks. There may be
opportunities for non-hams (16 and over) to
assist.

The Tour de Cure starts at the Two Brothers
Roundouse in Aurora and extends through DuPage,
Kane, and Kendall counties.

I hope to see you at these fun, rewarding public
service events.
