On the weekend of 07-10 August, hams are needed to
help with the special event station K9BSA, and
related activities, at AirFest, an aviation
related scout gathering to be held at the Lewis
University Airport in Romeoville. In addition to
coaching visiting scouts in operating the special
event station itself (or operating the station
yourself), there will also be opportunities to
help with teaching material for the Radio Merit
Badge, demonstrations of Low Earth Orbiting
Satellites and Morse Code, a UHF Talk-In station
for out-of-town scout units, and a VHF Camp Net.
To volunteer, please visit this link, which lists
hours of operation and the various roles for which
volunteers are needed:

Also, Melrose Park Public Safety and Homeland
Security (MPPS) would like to showcase one of the
Cook County Unified Command Post vehicles by
encouraging any interested amateur radio operators
to visit while their staff works at two large
events: Taste of Melrose Park on the weekend of
29-31 August, and the Melrose Park Hispano Fest on
the weekend of September 05-07. These activities
will be held at 1000 N. 25th Ave.

For more information and a list of other upcoming
events, please see the public service calendar on
the Cook County ARES web page:

Providing public service communications for events
involving the public is a great way to exercise
the same equipment and operating skills you will
need in a real emergency. It's also a terrific
opportunity to assist your community and
demonstrate amateur radio in the best possible
light.
Please consider helping with these upcoming
events. (If you've never participated in a
ham-radio public service event before, don't
worry--there are plenty of experienced folks to
give you a helping hand.)
I hope to see you at these fun, rewarding public
service events.
