Message-ID: <53B4AEB4.9000801@comcast.net>
Every Friday at 8:30 AM Rockford area hams and those with an interest in
ham radio gather for breakfast at Morning Glory, 915 S. Alpine Rd.,
opposite Alpine Park in Rockford, IL The event lasts until we run out
of things to talk about (doesn't happen...) or 11:30 arrives (all to
quickly most Fridays...) Informal and friendly. Spouses welcome!
****This is the final breakfast at the South Alpine Rd. location, due to
it's closing. Next week (July 11) we will be meeting for breakfast at
the Morning Glory Restaurant's other location, 408 7th St. (east side
of the street, next to the alley mid way between 3rd and 4th
Avenues*)*There are about 12 parking spots, 6 on each side of the alley,
that are marked for the restaurant*. *Additional parking is on the
street, watch signage! All other nearby lots are marked as "tow away".****
No club affiliation, no organized programs, just like minded folks
getting together
for a good time.
73 and hope to see you there,

Subject: [ILHam] Volunteers Needed for K2BSA SES August 8-10
Message-ID: <53C95665.1080107@gmail.com>
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
The Boy Scouts of America have given the Rainbow Council Amateur Radio
Committee permission to operate K2BSA as a Special Event Station during
Scout AirFest on August 8, 9, and 10.
With nearly 3,750 registered Scouters, AirFest is one of the largest
Scout events in Northern Illinois this year. We need volunteers to work
4 hour shifts on one of our four HF voice, CW, and PSK radio stations at
Lewis University Airport in Romeoville.
Our primary objective is introducing young men to radio communications,
electronics, and related professional fields. The K2BSA operation is a
great way to do this. Hams also have a unique opportunity to operate on
of America's most recognized amateur radio call signs.
Would you volunteer as a control operator and be an ambassador of the hobby?
Please visit the following link and register as a volunteer today.

Dear Cook County ARES? Members and Friends:
Ham volunteers are needed for upcoming public
service events.
===============
THIS COMING SUNDAY, 27 July, Will County ARES and
Illinois Radio League will be providing
communications support for the Catfish Days Parade
in Wilmington. Amateurs will be needed for this
event beginning around noon on Sunday.
For more information or to volunteer, please
contact Dennis Reavis KC9IRL:
or Jerry Watts K9LOT:
===============
On the weekend of 07-10 August, hams are needed to
help with the special event station K9BSA, and
related activities, at AirFest, an aviation
related scout gathering to be held at the Lewis
University Airport in Romeoville. In addition to
coaching visiting scouts in operating the special
event station itself (or operating the station
yourself), there will also be opportunities to
help with teaching material for the Radio Merit
Badge, demonstrations of Low Earth Orbiting
Satellites and Morse Code, a UHF Talk-In station
for out-of-town scout units, and a VHF Camp Net.
To volunteer, please visit this link, which lists
hours of operation and the various roles for which
volunteers are needed:
For more information, please contact Brian
McDaniel KC4LMD:
===============
On Saturday, 16 August, DuPage County ARES will be
providing communications support for the Cystic
Fibrosis Cycle For Life, a cycling fundraising
event for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. The
event begins at Peck Woods in Geneva, but
volunteers may be assigned to other locations
along the route.
For more information or to volunteer, please
contact Dennis Rucker WR9U:
===============
Also, Melrose Park Public Safety and Homeland
Security (MPPS) would like to showcase one of the
Cook County Unified Command Post vehicles by
encouraging any interested amateur radio operators
to visit while their staff works at two large
events: Taste of Melrose Park on the weekend of
29-31 August, and the Melrose Park Hispano Fest on
the weekend of September 05-07. These activities
will be held at 1000 N. 25th Ave.
===============
For more information and a list of other upcoming
events, please see the public service calendar on
the Cook County ARES web page:
Providing public service communications for events
involving the public is a great way to exercise
the same equipment and operating skills you will
need in a real emergency. It's also a terrific
opportunity to assist your community and
demonstrate amateur radio in the best possible
light.
Please consider helping with these upcoming
events. (If you've never participated in a
ham-radio public service event before, don't
worry--there are plenty of experienced folks to
give you a helping hand.)
I hope to see you at these fun, rewarding public
service events.
