[ILHam] Public Service Opportunity--29 September 2013--Evanston Bike the Ridge

Dear Cook County ARES® Members and Friends:

Please consider helping with this public service
event:

  The Evanston Amateur Radio Community and GMRS
  operators are supporting Evanston's Bike the
  Ridge event on SUNDAY 29 September 2013. This
  noncompetitive, City-sponsored special event
  will close Ridge Avenue from Howard to Church
  Streets and is open to non-motorized bicycles.
  
  While this stretch is only about two miles long,
  radio communications can be difficult due to
  terrain. Radio operators are needed to
  facilitate communications along the course and
  assist in performing traffic control duties.
  
  Operators are needed from 6:30 AM to 2:00 PM. To
  volunteer please contact Scott Irwin

  or phone (847-492-3456) as soon as possible.

Providing public service communications for events
involving the public is a great way to exercise
the same equipment and operating skills you will
need in a real emergency.  It's also a terrific
opportunity to assist in the community and
demonstrate amateur radio in the best possible
light.
