Dear Chicago Area Hams:

It's hard to believe it's already "Christmas in
July", and we'll soon be occupied by thoughts of
autumn: back to school, raking leaves, cleaning
gutters, etc.

But the Ham Radio Public Service Season is still
in full swing, and WE NEED YOU!

On WEDNESDAY August 10th, hams will be assisting
with an exercise at Harper College. This is a
unique opportunity to participate in an important
event. If you are available on WEDNESDAY, please
contact me by e-mail or phone at 224 366 7104 to
volunteer!

In addition, please consider volunteering for
these other public service events:

==================================================

  On Saturday August 06, the Lake County RACES
  group is assisting with the Grayslake Public
  Library Just Book It 5K Run.

==================================================

  On Saturday October 01, hams will be helping
  with the Prairie State CERT Challenge in
  Glenview. You need not be CERT trained to
  participate in the amateur radio support.

==================================================

  On Sunday October 09, hams will be helping with
  the Chicago Marathon.

  Rob Orr K9RST of the marathon's ham radio
  leadership group writes:

    For the past three years, a group of ham radio
    operators from the surrounding area has
    provided radio support to the Bank of America
    Chicago Marathon. Basically, we help the
    medical director for the race and provide ham
    radio operators at each of the 21 Aid
    Stations, 9 remote electronic signs, a remote
    headquarters team and a net control team in
    Grant Park. Last year we had 106 ham radio
    operators and this year, we are seeking the
    same.

    We are just starting to organize ham radio
    teams for the 2011 Chicago Marathon, October
    9, 2011. We are asking clubs to "own" an Aid
    Station and to organize a team from their own
    ranks. Please let us know if your club or
    organization will support the effort this year
    (send us your contact name). Or you can be
    among the large group of at large members and
    we will assign you to a station with others.

==================================================

Public service is a great way to have some fun
with ham radio, deliver a useful service to served
agencies and charitable organizations, and show
off amateur radio in the best possible light.
Won't you please volunteer?

Thanks and 73,
