Our July 26 program for the Evanston Amateur Radio Community will be on
sunspots and propagation. Our special guest presenter will be K9OR, Randy
Brothers.
Randy was first licensed in Ohio in 1962 (a sunspot minimum), active
through 1966 – then inactive through college and the 70’s (missed the 1969
peak).
Randy caught the down-swing of the 1980 peak, being active from 1981 to
1986, then inactive through the next peak of 1991, but managed to get back on
air in 2001, to enjoy real sunspot activity for the first time.
He states, “Since I missed several peaks, I’m determined not to let any
more go by.”
Randy’s presentation will be on sunspots, what they are, and how they and
other solar happenings affect radio propagation. The 11-year cycle is still
somewhat of a mystery, but he will cover the latest theories.
Join us on Monday, July 26, at 7:30 p.m. in the Fire Department Training
Room, 909 Lake Street. You may park across the street so long as you sign the
sheet listing your car as an authorized parker when you enter the meeting
room.
73, Marilyn, W9LUO
