Dear Friends:
Kane County ARES could still use a few more operators for the ADA "Grand
Geneva" Tour de Cure on Sunday June 7th. The start/finish is at Peck Farm
Park in Geneva, and the ride goes through a good portion of Kane County.
This is a big fundraiser for the American Diabetes Association, and the
Amateur Radio community has supported the ADA by providing health and safety
communications for the Tour for many years. We are in need of at least 4-5
more hams who can help- and if you have never worked an event like this
before.don't worry! The TdC is a well-run event, and usually is ridden by
300-600 riders, individually and in teams.
We are responsible for:
- Helping to provide SAG(Support and Gear) service for the ride
- Staffing the rest stops to provide communications to and from the
start/finish.
- Shadowing ride officials to keep in touch with our comm. Team
- Providing advance notice of possible severe weather and helping to
implement plans to keep riders safe.
Those that can help by driving a SAG route will get some reimbursement of
gas cost (courtesy of BP) in the form of gas cards. Of course, there is food
as well as you get The T-Shirt! It is a fun day, and we are supporting a
worthy cause by helping to keep hundreds of riders safe.
If you can be available, please contact me via email at
kc9fqv at kanecountyares.org or via phone at 630-430-2421.
Thanks for your help!
