Dear Cook County ARES Members and Friends:
As the weather gods tease us with glimpses of
spectacular sunshine and balmy breezes, our
thoughts turn to the upcoming Public Service Event
season.
The weather is always magnificent when you're
working a public service event, and every
assignment is on the sunny side of the street!
OK, that may be a bit of an overstatement. But
although the weather may not always be perfect,
every public service event offers great
opportunities for the volunteer-minded ham. You
can practice your communications skills or learn
new ones, work with interesting people, enjoy
using that nifty radio you bought recently, and
provide valuable service to an organization or
agency, all while demonstrating the unique
capabilities of amateur radio to the public.
Whether you're an OM or a YL, a Technician or an
Extra, newly licensed or a grizzled veteran,
there's a place for you in our upcoming public
service events!
* On Saturday, MAY 9th, we will be providing
communications support for the Climate Cycle
Ride, a charity cycling event that runs near
the Lake Michigan shoreline in Chicago.
* And on Saturday, JUNE 13th, we will be helping
with the Madison-Chicago 200, a two-day
200-mile relay race. In Cook County, we need
volunteers at sites in Glencoe, Evanston, and
Chicago.
If you can help with one or both of these events,
or you'd like more information, please drop me a
line.
Thanks and 73,
--Neil Ormos N9NL
