All are welcome to attend the April 20 meeting of the Evanston Amateur
Radio Community at 7:30 p.m. at the Fire Department Training Room, 909 Lake
Street in Evanston. The program for the meeting will be presented by Mike
Mitchell, K9SKP, who will tell us about the Red Cross disaster communications
systems.
Mike is an active Red Cross volunteer. He is an expert in the area
of mobile technology for disaster response. From early 2003 through the end
of 2008 Mike was responsible for the ECRV (Emergency Communications Response
Vehicle) program for the American Red Cross. Mike managed the fleet of all
12 ECRV’s, developed a team of coordinators and support staff across the
country, oversaw the deployment of all vehicles, developed a training program
and trained staff across the country in the operation and management of the
ECRV’s. He further coordinated the enhancement of the program and the ECRV
itself through research, recommendation and acquisition of additional
equipment to further the utilization of the vehicles. Currently Mike is the
Executive Director and founder of Disaster Technologist, a professional association
of people sharing the interest of the use of technology in disaster
response. He also continues to volunteer with the American Red Cross in leadership
positions both locally and at the national level.
Parking is free in the lot across from the meeting location;
however, those who park there must sign in with their name, vehicle type, vehicle
color and license number to avoid getting a ticket there.
73, Marilyn, W9LUO
