Thomas Janetske, KB9TRV, Evanston Division Chief Fire Prevention /
Emergency Preparedness, will speak to us about what Evanston Emergency
Preparedness has looked at for ham operators locally. We will have the
opportunity to discuss roles you might want in Evanston's program with
Chief Janetske at the inaugural meeting of the ARRL-recognized club,
the Evanston Amateur Radio Community on Monday, October 27, at 7:30
p.m. at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, 1334 Wesley Avenue (Wesley and
Greenwood, that's one block north of Dempster and one block west of
Asbury).
As stated in the club constitution (available at the website), "It
shall be our purpose to further the exchange of information and
cooperation between members, to promote radio knowledge, fraternalism
and individual operating efficiency, and to so conduct club programs
and activities as to advance the general interest and welfare of
Amateur Radio in the community. It is the special purpose of this
group to be ready to support the City of Evanston in emergency
situations, as we may be requested by the Evanston Office of Emergency
Preparedness."
The club call sign is KC9OAS. Listen for this on two meter simplex or
on other bands. We will discuss the possibility of a simplex net at
our meeting.
At the present time, we are planning four meetings a year, on the
fourth Monday of January, April, July and October. More meetings may
be scheduled if interest is there.
The Evanston Amateur Radio Community has a website at EvanstonHams.org
and a yahoo group at groups.yahoo.com/group/evanstonhams
Check our website regularly for details on nets, meetings, public
service events, exercises in lieu of actual occurrences, classes, and
other things of interest to Evanston hams.
Remember, we can cover all of Evanston, including the dead zones!
