The North Shore Radio Club will return to the Northbrook Village Green Park,
right in the middle of downtown Northbrook, for its annual Field Day, June
28 - 29. The Village Green Park is located at 1331 Shermer Rd. (Shermer Rd
& Walters Ave. at Meadows Rd), Northbrook, IL 60062.
We will be operating as 3A, with two CW stations and a SSB station, a VHF
and GOTA station. The GOTA station will be K9RST and the other stations will
be K9OR. This year we will be setting up separate beam antennas on two
bucket trucks, one that goes up 50 feet! So if you are close by, look for
the bucket truck to find us.
We will also be conducting short, introductory classes to ham radio
including:
3:00 p.m. What is ham radio and what is Field Day? (Rob Orr and Randy
Brothers)
3:15 p.m. What operating modes does ham radio employ? (Marilyn Gardner and
Doc Libit)
What is Single Side band, FM and CW and how do we use them
to communicate?
What is GOTA?
3:30 p.m. Antenna tour of the Field Day site. (Greg Stehling)
4:00 p.m. Demonstration of Amateur Television, Slow Scan television, APRS
and HF listening posts. (Ed Burckart)
5:00 p.m. The club will also have it annual picnic. All are welcome.
Please bring a side dish or a dessert. The club will provide the protein
(hamburgers, hot dogs and chicken!).
We will be monitoring our 2 meter repeater (147.345 PL 107.2), although
there will be no formal talk-in station. On the ground, around the site, we
will be using a simplex frequency of 146.520.
We are very grateful to the Northbrook Park District for their support and
the use of their facilities.
We have a copy of a State Proclamation sponsored by Susan Garrett, declaring
June 23 -24 as Amateur Radio Emergency Field Day (well, they were off by a
few days.but their hearts are in the right place:) This document is
available to all Clubs in Illinois to display for PR purposes. It
recognizes the work done by the amateur service to provide emergency
communication. If you would like a copy of the PDF file, please contact me
directly and I will email you a copy.
The public is invited to all activities and events. We will begin setting
up at 8:00 a.m. on Saturday and will begin operating at 1:00 p.m. and
continue for 24 hours. For more information about the club or Field Day,
