Dear Cook County ARES Members and Friends:

Bob Langsfeld WB9TZC of Hoffman Estates EMA has
alerted us to a unique volunteer opportunity to
assist the Schaumburg Police Department with a
professional bicycle race--the Men's Pro Stage 2
Road Race--on Saturday, 2 August.

According to information from the coordinator:

This event is a 90-mile road race that will be
held on a 7.6 mile course through the residential
streets of Schaumburg. Schaumburg Police personnel
will be responsible for all road closures and
  traffic direction. However numerous residential
side streets that "cross" the course will have
barricades to prevent traffic from entering the
  course. Schaumburg is seeking community
  volunteers to monitor these barricades.

Although communications for this event will use
commercial (i.e., non-Ham) radios supplied by
Schaumburg, Bob Langsfeld states that hams would
be a great fit for this event.

A letter explaining more about the event and the
responsibilities of volunteers, along with a
volunteer application, are available here:

For more information, or to volunteer, please
contact Sgt. John Nebl N9MYC of the Schaumburg
Police Department (see the materials linked
above).
