The North Shore Radio Club announces its annual Winter Banquet, open to all
with an interest in amateur radio or history to be held Saturday evening,
January 26, 6:30 p.m. at the Chevy Chase Country Club.
This year we have a very special guest, Mr. George Sinclair, whose uncle,
Harold Sydney Bride, was the only surviving radio operator on the RMS
Titanic.
Mr. Sinclair will present some rare family photographs of Mr. Bride and
provide an illustrated history of the events surrounding the catastrophe.
Mr. Sinclair will also show some recently released family memorabilia, as
well as pictures of Captain Smith and photographs of the Carpathia.
The presentation will include discussion on Marconi's development of radio
telegraphy and David Sarnoff's participation in the Titanic communications
saga.
Sarnoff went on to become the Chairman of RCA and the co-developer of color
television.
Mr. Sinclair will also talk about Jack Binns, the Radio Officer of the
Republic in 1909 sea rescue of the Florida passengers and crew.
The North Shore Radio Club will also recognize some members of the North
Shore Radio Community who have made significant contributions to the ham
radio in the past year.
