Our October meeting: THE DIGITAL REVOLUTION & HAM
RADIO

We'll use our next meeting as your opportunity
explore digital radio.

We will try to touch on what is meant by Digital Ham
Radio: voice & data communication techniques utilizing
Digital Voice (D-STAR & APCO P25), HSMM/Wi-Fi, Packet
Radio, PSK/FSK/MFSK, RTTY, APRS, WinLink, HF Digital
Voice, digital satellite, digital SSTV, WSJT meteor
sctatter, emergency communication digital techniques
(ARES & EmComm) & other digital modes on HF, VHF &
UHF.

How does digital radio effect repeater frequency
allocation?

We're lucky this month to be lead in a discussion by
Robert Shepard, KA9FLX - Technical Committee Chair,
Illinois Repeater Association.

Bob will come prepared to shed some light on the
subject, and in words which will make sense.
He's not coming to sell us on some new 'break through'
proprietary solution. Rather an overview of what
digital advances are occurring within our hobby.
How our hobby is changing and making room for the
shift from analog towards digital radio.

His credentials, accomplishments and bio can be read
at http://www.qrz.com/callsign/KA9FLX

They say that keeping up with the times is important.
Are you keeping up? Do you need to? Will my radio
still work?

VE testing is available at 7 p.m., before the meeting.

73,

de W9YK and N0FCD (for the York Radio Club)
