To All Radio Amateurs:
Skywarn Recognition Day runs from 1800 CST Friday
to 1800 CST Saturday (that's 0000 to 2400 UTC
Saturday).
Skywarn Recognition Day, sponsored jointly by the
National Weather Service and the ARRL, celebrates
the contributions of Skywarn volunteers to the
mission of the National Weather Service. All
amateurs are invited to participate in this fun
operating event, in which hams get on the air from
National Weather Service offices throughout the
country and try to work as many other stations as
possible. This year, around 100 NWS offices are
expected to participate in the event.
Participants can qualify for a nice certificate.
More info is available at:
In the Chicago area, the NWS weather forecast
office in Romeoville is participating, with five
stations operating on HF, VHF/UHF, and Echolink
under the callsign WX9LOT. Repeater contacts are
permissable, so you may find WX9LOT on various
Chicago-area repeaters, along with several FM
simplex frequencies, and 2m SSB.
Please take some time on Saturday to join in the
fun!
