The North Shore Radio Club will link its repeaters Thursday, March 23, for
the 8:00 p.m.CST net. Check in on the two meter repeater (147.345 MHz, +600
KHz, PL 107.2 Hz) or the 440 repeater (442.075 +5MHz, PL 100.0 Hz). However,
please check 2-meters if you don't hear us on UHF. It's suggested that the
operator pause for about a second after keying the microphone to allow the linkage
to pick up the request to transmit, especially on the 440 band.

In addition to local traffic, and John Wass with the local hamfest and
American Radio Relay League (ARRL) news, this week's net will include the RAIN
Report and Amateur Radio Newsline. The RAIN Report is "Gordon West - 2006 Amateur
of the Year." One of the most recognizable and charismatic figures in both
Amateur Radio circles is Gordon West, WB6NOA. Author of numerous articles and
books over the years, this flamboyant, Costa Mesa, California ham radio instructor
gained notoriety with his ham radio training books and codes tapes once
marketed by Radio Shack. Often referred to as "Gordo" Gordon West has finally been
recognized for his years of service by the Dayton Hamvention. Gordo is
recipient of the prestigious 2006 Amateur of the Year award. So the obvious question
is" How does he feel about receiving this award? Amateur Radio Newsline's Bill
Pasternak, WA6ITF, found out.

Amateur Radio Newsline reports Dayton honors Gordon West WB6NOA, Riley
Hollingsworth K4ZDH and Richard Illman AH6EZ with the highest awards in
Amateur Radio. Also, hams are there as floods and tornadoes hit the mid-
West, Amateur Radio Newsline expands eligibility for the Young Ham of the
Year Award and the ARRL says that its time to say "hello."

All licensed amateurs are welcome to check in. Check-ins are taken by net
control Mark WA9IVH, at the beginning of the net, between RAIN and Newsline, and
after Newsline.

73,
Marilyn Tschannen Gardner, W9LUO
North Shore Radio Club
