The North Shore Radio Club will link its Winnetka 2-meter and Chicago 440 MHz
repeaters January 26 for the 8:00 p.m. CST net. Check in on the two meter
repeater (147.345 MHz, +600 Hz, PL 107.2 Hz) or the 440 repeater (442.075 +5MHz,
PL 100.0 Hz). However, please check 2-meters if you don't hear us on UHF. It's
suggested that the operator pause for about a second after keying the
microphone to allow the linkage to pick up the request to transmit, especially on the
440 band.
In addition to local traffic, and John Wass with the local hamfest and
American Radio Relay League (ARRL) news, this week's net will include the RAIN
Report and Amateur Radio Newsline. The RAIN Report is "Vern Jackson - His Story"
Part One Did you know there is a weekly, live, ham radio program service on 160
meters? The Gateway 160-Meter Radio Newsletter has been a fixture on 1860 KHz
on the 160-meter amateur band since 1979. The Missouri man behind it since its
inception is Vern Jackson, WA0RCR. Like so many in ham radio, Vern's
introduction and early days in ham radio make for a good story, related to Hap Holly,
KC9RP.
Amateur Radio Newsline reports the 3Y0X makes ready to depart for Peter One
Island, Suit-Sat is readied for deployment from the International Space
Station, and, a new acronym, UWB, raises concern among hams in the United Kingdom.
All licensed amateurs are welcome to check in. Check-ins are taken by net
control Mark, WA9IVH, at the beginning of the net, between RAIN and Newsline,
and after Newsline.
73,
Marilyn Tschannen Gardner, W9LUO
