The North Shore Radio Club will link its 2-meter Winnetka repeater and its
440 Chicago repeater on January 19 for the 8:00 p.m. CST net. Check in on the
two meter band (147.345 MHz, +600 Hz, PL 107.2 Hz or via IRLP node 4206) or the
440 band (442.075 +5MHz, PL 100.0 Hz). However, please check 2-meters if you
don't hear us on UHF. It's suggested that the operator pause for about a second
after keying the microphone to allow the linkage to pick up the request to
transmit, especially on the 440 band.
In addition to local traffic, and John Wass with the local hamfest and
American Radio Relay League (ARRL) news, this week's net will include the RAIN
Report and Amateur Radio Newsline. The RAIN Report is "Chris Gerard - Someone
Special" School radio clubs are typically sponsored and driven by a motivated
faculty member or parent. ARGYL, the Amateur Radio Group of Youth in Lowell, radio
club of Lowell, Michigan is no exception. However, in the fall of 2003
16-year-old Chris Gerard earned the call sign, KC8WBU and became ARGYL president a
year later. At age 17 Chris took ARGYL's faculty sponsor, Allan Eckman, WW8WW,
on his first plane ride--no not Allan's first, Chris's first. You see, Chris
earned his pilot's license at age 16 but, according to Eckman, by law Chris had
to wait until his 17th birthday to make his maiden flight. This week's RAIN
report is the excellent presentation given by Chris during the Youth in Amateur
Radio forum at the 2005 Dayton Hamvention.
Amateur Radio Newsline reports the FCC opens the road to regulation by
bandwidth, ham radio helps fight fires in the great American South-West and an
astro-ham tries for Worked All Continents on the 450 MHz band.
All licensed amateurs are welcome to check in. Check-ins are taken by net
control Marilyn, W9LUO, at the beginning of the net, between RAIN and
Newsline,
and after Newsline.
73,
Marilyn Tschannen Gardner, W9LUO
