The North Shore Radio Club will link its repeaters February 23 for the 8:00
p.m. CST net. Check in on the two meter repeater (147.345 MHz, +600 Hz, PL
107.2 Hz) or the 440 repeater (442.075 +5MHz, PL 100.0 Hz). The 440 repeater
has
the greater range. However, please check 2-meters if you don't hear us on
UHF.
It's suggested that the operator pause for about a second after keying the
microphone to allow the linkage to pick up the request to transmit,
especially on
the 440 band.
In addition to local traffic, and John Wass with the local hamfest and
American Radio Relay League (ARRL) news, this week's net will include the
RAIN
Report and Amateur Radio Newsline. The RAIN Report is "The Story Behind Suit
Sat"
Part Two. This week we'll actually hear several audio snippets from Suit
Sat's
VHF HT. What kind of 2-meter handheld is being used? And what information is
it transmitting? We hear those answers this week as RAIN Founder/Producer,
Hap
Holly, KC9RP, continues his interview with Steve Bible, N7HPR, the designer
of
the Suit Sat controller, Applications Engineer with Micro Chip Technology,
and long-time Vice President of TAPR, the Tucson Amateur Packet Radio Corp.
Amateur Radio Newsline reports on good words to congress about ham radio,
dropping Morse seems to be on the back-burner at the FCC, the 3Y0X
DXpedition
gets up to full speed and "Ham Radio is Public Service" is announced as the
Theme
of Hamvention 2006.
All licensed amateurs are welcome to check in. Check-ins are taken by net
control Mark, WA9IVH, at the beginning of the net, between RAIN and
Newsline,
and after Newsline.

Marilyn Tschannen Gardner, W9LUO

We had a recent inquiry into our WWW.RACES.ORG website looking for any group
running a (Technician) ham license class/ham cram within about forth-five
minutes from the Des Plaines area. If anyone has information on this, please
email me off-line and I'll be glad to forward it.
