The North Shore Radio Club will link its Winnetka repeaters September 29 for
the 8:00 p.m. net. Check in on the two meter repeater (147.345 MHz, +600 Hz.,
PL 107.2 Hz.) or the 440 repeater (442.075 +5MHz., PL 100.0 Hz.). However,
please check 2-meters if you don't hear us on UHF. It's suggested that the
operator pause
for about a second after keying the microphone to allow the linkage to pick
up the request to transmit, especially on the 440 band.
In addition to local traffic, and John Wass with the local hamfest and
American Radio Relay League (ARRL) news, the NSRC net includes the RAIN report and
AR Newsline. The RAIN report for this week is "Principia hams Assist in Katrina
Aftermath." In the St. Louis, Missouri Suburb of Ballwin Rick Dearborn,
N9IH, produces technology programming for commercial radio. On September 15 Rick
Dearborn, N9IH, and a group of student, faculty and alumni hams affiliated with
nearby Principia Upper School and Principia College motored from the St.
Louis suburb of Ballwin to Hancock County, Mississippi, to participate in the ham
radio relief effort in Katrina's aftermath. Rick made some fascinating
discoveries that you'll want to know about if you're planning to physically take part
in ham radio relief efforts in the wake of natural disasters like hurricanes
Katrina and Rita. Hap Holly, KC9RP, RAIN Founder/Producer caught up with Rick
on September 21--two days following his return from the beleaguered gulf
coast.
Amateur Radio Newsline reports that as the hurricanes continue so does ham
radio's response. Also, another ham sat is ready to launch and the N-T-S-B
says no to new drivers operating mobile.
All licensed amateurs are welcome to check in. Check-ins are taken by net
control Marilyn, W9LUO, at the beginning of the net, between RAIN and
Newsline,
and after Newsline.
73,
Marilyn Tschannen Gardner, W9LUO
