Highland Park's North Shore Radio Club will again link its repeaters on
January 5 for the 8:00 p.m. net. Check in on the two meter repeater (147.345 MHz,
+600 Hz., PL 107.2 Hz.) or the 440 repeater (442.075 +5MHz., PL 100.0 Hz.).
It's suggested that the operator pause for about a second after keying the
microphone to allow the linkage to pick up the request to transmit, especially on
the 440 band.

In addition to local traffic, and John Wass with the local hamfest and ARRL
news, the NSRC net includes the RAIN report and AR Newsline. The RAIN report
this week features "Lou McCoy - A True Radio Pioneer"  Part One. If you have
operated the HF ham bands (those below 30 MHz), you very likely have used an
antenna tuner. Lou developed the first antenna tuner he dubbed the Ultimate Trans
Match.  A prolific technical writer, this inveterate DX'er confirmed
contacting over 380 countries ... a significant accomplishment in itself. Lou is even
given credit for launching the Novice class license in the early '50's. This
Amateur Radio legend was perhaps best known for his stories; you'll hear some in
this first installment of this entertaining RAIN rerun of Hap Holly, KC9RP's
interview he conducted with this radio pioneer just prior to Lou's 81st
birthday in 1997; Lou became a silent key three years later.

Amateur Radio Newsline features a story on how Ham radio provides aid after
an Indian Ocean Tsunami.

All licensed amateurs are welcome to check in.  Check-ins tonight are taken
by net control W9LUO at the beginning of the net, between RAIN and Newsline,
and after Newsline.

73,
Marilyn Tschannen Gardner, W9LUO
