Subject: Boy Scouts JOTA Event

Dear ARES members,

The Boy Scouts will be holding their annual
Jamboree On The Air event this coming weekend
(October 16th and 17th). This is a worldwide
event similar to our Field Day with the exception
that it is not a contest. (Of course we all know
FD isn't a contest either.) Boy Scout Troop 69
will be sponsoring a station at Camp Dan Beard in
Glenview, IL. The event will start at 9am
Saturday and run through the night until 9am on
Sunday. Camp Dan Beard is located on PortWine Rd,
just a little bit south of Lake Cook Rd. Portwine
Rd is about a 1/2 mile west of 294.

On Saturday, from 9am - 5pm the Troop will be
conducting training sessions to assist the Scouts
in earning their radio merit badges. There will
be four stations: General Overview of Amateur
Radio, Equipment and Safety, Operating Procedures,
and On the Air Contact. The idea being to run the
Scouts through the four stations before moving
them on to the radio tents to make actual
contacts. The Scouts are looking for volunteers
to man these stations in two-hour shifts.

Control operators that can work two-hour shifts
anytime during this event are also needed for this
event.

The group also welcomes any operators that would
like to demonstrate different amateur modes of
operations such as PSK31, ATV (I'm doing a demo),
Fox Hunting, (my son is doing a demo), etc. If
you have a special mode you would like to
demonstrate, please come out.

I am attaching some information to this message,
however I am not sure the reflector can handle
attachments (I've never tried). If you are
interested in participating in this event tomorrow
and would like additional information, please
Email me at kent.ochs at experian.com or call me at
home (847) 891-6025 or on my cell phone (847)
561-5001. I will coordinate with the sponsoring
group to get you scheduled.

These boys are the hobby's potential operators of
the future. If you can find some time Saturday,
Saturday night, or early Sunday morning (if you
can't sleep) your assistance with this event would
be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance for
your participation in this event.
