Subject: LaSalle Nuclear Station drill
The bi-annual nuclear station drill for LaSalle County Station is
scheduled for March 11th. We (LaSalle Cty ARES and friends) have
provided backup communications for this exercise for the past three times
(six years). We are organizing now. At this time I do not know how
many municipal and township governments will take part, so I am not sure
how many hams are needed. I should know soon, but in the meantime I want
to start recruiting for it. The drill takes place during regular working
hours, so 9-to-5er's are unable to help unless they take a day off. In
addition, those taking part are required to take a brief training course
from an IEMA instructor. I have arranged for this to be given in the
evening, Feb 24 at 6:00 PM in Ottawa.
I am scheduling a meeting for Saturday, February 21 in Leonore
(near Streator) for all of those who can and want to help. If you have a
mobile or portable 2 Meter packet rig, that would be a big plus, as we
try to use that mode as much as possible. We do use FM voice if we must,
but that is frowned on a little since someone hearing the content of some
of the messages may misinterpret them as the real thing and start a
panic. We will discuss the technical and organizational aspects of the
drill, and make final assignments.
If interested please e-mail me for further details.
