Dear ARES Members and Friends:

Cook County ARES will hold our first
general Online Meeting on Monday, 9 February 2004,
at 2100 (9:00 PM) local time. We encourage all
ARES members, and all others interested in Cook
County ARES, to attend. You will need access to
the internet to participate. This will be an
opportunity to ask questions, make suggestions,
and discuss the future direction of ARES (or
whatever else people want to discuss).

Over the last several months, several Cook County
ARES members have inquired when ARES would hold a
meeting. Because the county spans about 60 miles
corner-to-corner, it is nearly impossible to
arrange an in-person meeting that will accommodate
all of our members throughout the county,
particularly during the winter months, when travel
can be hazardous. However, much of what could be
accomplished at an in-person meeting may be
accomplished via an online meeting.

Topics to be discussed may include:

   Future direction of Cook County ARES;

   Opportunities for ARRL Field Organization
   Appointments, such as Official Emergency
   Station (OES), etc.;

   Upcoming Public Service opportunities;

   Opportunities to collaborate with other
   emergency communications groups;

   Thoughts on finding agencies to serve;

   ARES Spring Exercise;

   Other potential ARES activities;

   Administrivia; and

   and other ARES-related topics.

In order to participate in the meeting, you will
need access to the Internet, and a computer with
an Internet Relay Chat (IRC) client installed.

More information, including instructions about how
to download and install a free IRC client, are
available at our web site:
  http://ares.n9nl.com/

I hope you can join us.
