Here is a copy of the email that I sent to Mr. Cook at the Tribune; I =
encourage all hams to speak up and enlighten him.
Mr. Cook-
Your comment: "And you tend to read remarkably little about the =
influence of all those ham
radio freaks these days. " bothers me a little, to say the least.
If you want an idea of what ham radio operators have done recently, =
please access your archives regarding any recent natural (or man =
made...9/11) disaster. Amateur radio operators are always ready (i.e. =
talking to other hams) to ensure that their equipment is ready if and =
when local, county, state, or federal relief agencies need dependable =
communications during any type of emergency or severe weather warning. =
We dedicate a considerable portion of our time and effort to help out =
communities and agencies in need. It is certainly not "a low-tech =
version of blogging--."
I hope this enlightens you as to the value of the amateur radio service =
in the United States.
