For your New Year's resolution, how about learning some new skills by taking
an Amateur Radio License Class? Talk to friends across town and make new
ones around the world! The class is open to anyone, any age, interested in
becoming an Amateur Radio Operator or Ham! This 12-week class meets
Thursday nights, 7pm - 9pm, January 9th - April 3rd, 2003 at the Old
Administration Building (Stone Building) at the Illinois Veterans Home, 1707
North 12th Street in Quincy Illinois. When entering from 12th street, the
building is immediately beyond the fountain and flagpole. The classroom is
on the second floor and is handicapped accessible via an elevator from the
ground floor. No Morse code knowledge is required for this license. If you

This no-code Technician License Class is sponsored by the Western Illinois
Amateur Radio club. An "upgrade" class as well as weekly Morse Code
practice may also be offered if there is sufficient interest. Participants
will be encourages to purchase the book Now You're Talking!: All You Need to
Get Your Ham Radio Technician License, 3rd edition, (about $19), which will
be available through the class. Sessions will consist of some video
material, some lecture, demonstrations, and open discussion. On March 27th,
students will complete preliminary paperwork for the test, review material
with instructors, and get any remaining questions answered. FCC license
testing will be administered by ARRL Volunteer Examiners on April 2nd, 2003.
