I had a question about the National Quiet Zone and what was restricted and
permitted. Below is the e-mail exchange I had with ARRL and their very
helpful response.

Hello Marc,

In checking on your question concerning the National Quiet Zone, we found
out that short term mobile amateur or CB operation within that zone does not
require any form of notification. If you intend to set up a permanent
transmitting station for instance moving within that area and you want to
set up an amateur station then you would need to notify them and I was
assured arrangements are easily worked out. They have a web site that tells
more about it which I will include if you haven't already checked it out.
The person I talked with say they intend to put more information on this web
site soon dealing with this very question.

I'm not sure if your section is the correct one to ask the following
question - if not please send to correct dept.

I thought I remembered a restricted zone in the Maryland area and after some
searching found the Lat/Log coordinates that outline that zone. What I read
in Part 97 does not indicate the specifics of restriction. Does this mean
no Amateur Radio transmissions of any kind or any power ? ----- or does
this refer only to HF? ----- what about CB usage?

I am going into that general area and need to know.

Thanks, and 73,
