This is an issue with many 100w smaller radios, My FT-897 had the problem

and I replaced the rear molex with a direct HD big cable direct to 
internal terminals, with rubber grommet.

No more issue and resulting VD ~0.5v @100w which is very good. The stock 
setup would VD ~ 2v or

more. as the connect deteriorated with time.


If you have a variable V PSU then dropping the radio Vss to a point 
where it cuts out, will indicate the volt drop

required to cause the issue. Under-size cable (high VD) is often an 
issue with homebrew cables.
