[ICOM] IC-718 Slow AGC Mod

The IC-718 is a nice little radio. When you feel like taking a break from
the

big bells and whistles radios the 718 is a nice change, simple yet has a
nice

solid build and sounds great, even on BC or shortwave broadcasts. (with a
good external speaker)

My only complaint (I'm not alone) is the fast AGC in SSB mode. I don't
understand why

Icom has never corrected this over the several years of building this radio.

The only way around it is to reduce the RF gain until the signal is just
breaking the noise level.

There are a couple of mods out there. Two that are on mods-dk

The first one involves running a short jumper between R1807 and R1808.

The other is running a jumper from R-1807 to an 8V source.

I tried the first one and there was no change at all.

Has anyone tried the second mod above.

I would like to hear from anyone who has tried either mod and the results.

Maybe there is even a better mod out there I haven't found yet.

Thanks,

Dave
