Mac,It is a very tough radio.I think it came out at the wrong time. There
was the 718,of course the pro series and the ic-7000 was ending and the
7100 was comming out. Many didnt like the radio as it has no FM
mode. Now,it is 100watts NO built in tuner, does have the usb audio
chain. No fancy freq disply.Tuning feel very good. All the normal features
we;ve come to expect...It is somewhat water resistant they say.Not
waterproof and does resenble a mil-com xcvr.Texas army mars bought a few
for mars service as a go rig. There was a small problem in the audio
where feedback would occur with some swr and processor. This could be
helped by wiring the micconn gnds together or fixed by giubg into the
radio and bond grounds to chassi AT the connector. The filters are built
in and ajustable.as well as some other fearures.I use mine as a field
day rig, just a fun rig,BBQ rig ,hi on the back porch And have thought
many times about running mobile as it used the mb-5 bracket.I have used
it on digi modes, winlink and vara.works fb.The bandpass adjustment is
very good and uses twin passband tuning. There are 100 memories, front
mounted speaker...need any more info just hollar.Ive had one since tx
army mars bought thiers. At that time I was active and felt I needed to
learn the radio.any other questions just ask....
