[ICOM] ID-880H GPS MODE

Is it possible to put the ID-880H into the GPS mode without a GPS receiver
input (please keep reading)?

This may sound like a strange question, but the short explanation is that
before I connect my GPS receiver output (another project) to the ID-880H, I
want to make sure the radio works in the GPS mode (I bought it used, so I
don't know its history).

If I understand the manual correctly, when the radio is configured properly
but there's no GPS input, I should see a 'GPS' tag in the upper-right
corner of the display. And since there's no GPS input, the 'GPS' tag will
be blinking.

Then when I connect the GPS receiver to the radio, the tag will stop
blinking indicating the radio is locked to the data.

Is this correct?

Once I know I have the radio configured properly and I have a steady 'GPS'
indication, I want to use it for APRS location.

I'd appreciate any help you can give me on this project.

Thanks - ed, k9ew
