To test it external Mark, you will need to load the input and output at the 
same impedance it will see in the set.  Feed the matched input with your 
signal generator through a 3 pf. cap, electrolytic or poly type.  Then use a 
3 pf. cap attached to the output and look at it with your scope.  That will 
take some math but you are good at that.

Actually if you can get to the connections in the set, just use a scope and 
set it to X 10 and low voltage.  Feed your generator into it and follow the 
trail, I assume it is a 9 meg IF filter.

A friend installed a filter into his IC-746 and it's not working.
