Hi John. I feel your pain. My MK ll g that I purchased in Tokyo, has been a 'standard' on 6M and up.There are lots of guys with the expertise to do repairs on your radio.I suggest you go to eHam and look up "amateur repair services". eHam is a fantastic (free) site.
SAR in Michigan is an authorized repair facility for Icom Amateur, Avionics, etc. He (Matt) has a fantastic reputation, although he may be bogged down with all our 7610 display replacements.
I've also heard super things about Mike Nadeau (W1EQ) in Maine.Check out these guys and MANY other servicers on eHam.I've not used either guys (yet) still doing my own repairs.

Subject: [ICOM] DEAD Icom 706 MK IIG
I have a dead Icom MK II G and a very much alive one.
My dead Icom MK II G has been posted here before and I have received suggestions which I have checked out to no avail.
II checked out the dreaded internal short caused by corrosion in the B+ and repaired and insulated the spot that usually gives trouble. The repair did nothing to change the state of death of the 706 MK II G.
Next, I removed and replaced the power connector on the rear panel to two threaded studs that made excellent contact with the NEW cable and new connector on the new cable applying 12VDC. to the ICOM 706 MK IIG and the transceiver STILL does not come on !!!!!
The front control panel HAS NO PROBLEM because I have placed it on my great working Icom 706 MK II G and that establishes that the control panel works well.
The stacked boards inside the ICOM are like a CAN OF WORMS and trouble shooting the loss of B+ in the circuitry of the insides of the Icom are really challenging for a really OLD GUY.
If anyone has ideas based on their experience, I will appreciate your help. I would like to find someone who repairs these radios also. I am stumped, so please help, if you can.
Thanks and 73, John, K5PGW
